7 Habits of Highly Organized People

I have not always been a naturally organized person. Though I've always enjoyed the pursuits and positive effects of organization since childhood, it's required applied intentional effort and practice to achieve a truly consistent organized lifestyle.

Beginning my own family has probably afforded me the greatest opportunity to observe a few of the biggest benefits of managing a simplified and organized home and life:
  1. To find things when I need them {quickly}.
  2. To feel as though I'm being a good steward with my time.
  3. To have a general sense of peace and calm.

As I've grown in my knowledge and understanding of organization through real life experience, and intentional education over the years, I've observed there are a few habits that have helped me maintain an organized lifestyle:

Addictive Behavior

This is the status I posted on my Weight Watcher’s Blog this morning--"Feeling great! Seeing the numbers go down on the scale is addictive!"

I have been overweight most of my adult life. There! I said it. I feel better already!

  • Is it my heredity? That may play a factor. I come from "large" families. Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and a bevy of other health issues have plagued my family (on both sides) for years.
  • Is it my health? Possibly. I do have some thyroid issues that have hindered my efforts in the past.
  • Is it my age? Hey! Now you've gone to meddling! :) It's true that when the big 4-0 rolls around (as it did for me this time last year), the metabolism starts to slow down.
  • Is it my lifestyle? Church activities, soccer games, cheerleading practice, L-I-F-E. All of these contribute to the busyness of us. It's easier, and let's face it, cheaper (monetarily), to pull through the drive-thru and grab something from the Dollar Menu. (I have justified not eating a salad, by saying that I couldn't safely drive and eat it.)

The truth is . . . my own personal choices have gotten me into this condition.

And my own personal choice is what's going to get me out of it!

I am CHOOSING to eat right.
I am CHOOSING to say no to the wrong kinds of food.
I am CHOOSING to exercise 4-5 times per week.

But the beauty of this choice is that I don’t have to do it alone.

I am CHOOSING to do what the Bible says in Psalm 105 and I am “seek(ing) the LORD, and his strength.”

I am CHOOSING to quote Philippians 4:13 regularly. “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

You see, I don’t have to do this alone.
And I won’t.
